New “0” gauge model exhibit

1950’s Bassett-Lowke tool maker and model engineer

Walter Newcombe worked at the Bassett-Lowke model engineers in Northampton during the 50’s/60’s. In his spare time at home in his garden shed workroom he scratch built three beautiful models (LMS Royal Scot 4-6-0, LMS Stanier 2-6-4T and Bulleid designed 1-Co-Co-1 diesel prototype 10201) .

Each model was scratch-built from J. Skinley and Harry Greenly drawings to 7mm:1ft scale and he fabricated all the parts himself, except for the wheels.

The models have been kindly donated to the museum by his niece and we hope that you will come and see them for yourself and read more about Walter and Bassett-Lowke.
