Armed Forces Day – EVENT MODIFIED DUE TO THE HEAT

RUSHDEN ARMED FORCES DAY CELEBRATIONS ARE STILL ON, BUT MODIFIED DUE TO EXTREME HEAT CONDITIONS

The Rushden & District Veterans’ Group has decided to modify the town’s celebrations of Armed Forces Day due to the current Met Office weather warnings for extreme heat, which has been extended through to 9pm on Saturday 27th June 2026; Rushden is currently under an Amber Weather Warning.

The important parts of the day are the Parade, which entails a 1.2 miles march with musicians, Sea, Army & Air Cadets, not to mention a good few veterans, all of whom are vulnerable and the Drumhead Service, due to be held outside the Goods Shed, which would be in full direct sunlight. In view of this, it has been decided to cancel the Parade and Drumhead Service elements as we have a duty of care to all participants, road marshals, etc.

The displays and stalls at The Rushden Goods Shed on John Clark Way will continue as planned and opens at midday, closing at 4pm. Here you will find stalls of all sorts.

Rushden station social club and ale bar is open from 12pm. Unfortunately we have made the decision not to run the train sor open the Buffet carriage as they are both situated in full sun all day long, with very little shade.

Come along and celebrate Rushden Armed Forces Day. We regret it remains unsafe and impractical for the Parade and Drumhead Service to proceed as planned, with current temperature forecasts predicting 28 degrees at what would have been the time to march off.

We hope to still see as many of you there to celebrate our Armed Forces
